I occasionally read a variety of public relations & marketing books to embrace different perspectives and gain a better understanding of the industry. With this post, I’m offering my thoughts on the best ones I’ve been able to complete so far.
“The New Rules of Marketing & PR” by David Meerman Scott
With the rapid growth of the internet over the last couple of years, public relations & marketing have also evolved. In this book, David Meerman Scott gives fairly detailed insights on how to effective use Social Media, blogs, viral & search engine marketing to reach customers and buyers directly.
“100 Great PR Ideas” by Jim Blythe
This is an absolutely fascinating, nicely packaged book that compiles PR tips from a variety of prominent companies around the world. The book is really easy to read and it lists tips ranging from simple to controversial. Overall, you’ll come away thinking up great ideas that can help take your brand or your business to the next level.
“Propaganda” by Edward L. Bernays
Published in 1928, concepts from this book are in my opinion still very relevant today. In this book, Bernays, discusses the theory of propaganda and summarizes topics like the psychology of PR, mechanics of propaganda and the relationship between business and the public. This is one of my all-time favorite reads – If you plan on having a career in the field, it’ll definitely be worth your while!
So, that’s my relatively short list of the PR and marketing books I consider awesome. In the coming months, I’ll be looking to add more absorbing books to the list.
